Liquid Brands is an innovative commercial project located within the Waterloo Business Park, designed to facilitate the expansion of a leading distributor of high-quality fashion brands in New Zealand. The primary objective was to create a functional warehouse model while moving away from conventional 'office building' and warehouse aesthetics. The result is a striking structure that reflects the brand's upscale image and commitment to quality.
The design features a traditional warehouse layout prioritizing operational efficiency, complemented by an eye-catching office block that occupies a prominent corner of the site. This two-story office structure boasts a copper-toned metal facade that not only enhances its visual appeal but also aligns with the brand's identity. The facade incorporates tapering windows and faceted copper-clad sections of aluminum composite panel (ACP), maximizing panel sizes and creating a dynamic elevation.
The strategic placement of windows, set back from the cladding, allows for a bold expression while facilitating natural light into the main office space, preventing overheating. The office's design stands in stark contrast to the more brutalist neighboring structures, presenting a positive, modern image that enhances the overall aesthetic of the business park.

The design of Liquid Brands emphasizes a harmonious relationship between functionality and aesthetics, creating a workspace that is both efficient and visually striking. The layout integrates the warehouse and office seamlessly, ensuring smooth operational flow while fostering collaboration and connectivity between teams. The warehouse is designed for optimal efficiency, with a layout that supports logistics and distribution, while the office block serves as a dynamic focal point for the company.
Material selection plays a pivotal role in establishing the project's unique identity. The copper-toned metal facade not only enhances visual interest but also conveys a sense of sophistication that aligns with Liquid Brands' high-end market positioning. The use of tapering windows and faceted ACP sections is a thoughtful design choice that optimizes panel sizes while providing an engaging facade that invites natural light into the workspace.
Contextually, the office block’s modern design contrasts effectively with the more brutalist neighboring buildings, contributing positively to the urban landscape of the business park. It stands as a beacon of innovation and quality in the area, enhancing the overall visual appeal of Waterloo Business Park.
Sustainability is also a key consideration in the design, with the building's envelope designed for energy efficiency and occupant well-being. The strategic placement of windows enhances natural ventilation and light, promoting a comfortable working environment while reducing reliance on artificial heating and cooling. This commitment to sustainability ensures that Liquid Brands not only meets operational needs but also aligns with contemporary environmental standards.
